(i) This paper is divided into Sections – A and B. Both Sections are compulsory.
(ii) Q. No. 10 has three Parts – I, II and III. Attempt only one part of Q. No. 10.
(iii) All other questions are compulsory.

          SECTION – A 

1. Explain with reference to the context any one of the following passages : 10
(a) The people I saw in India-those in the village as well as those in high office-have both pride and a lively sense of decency and citizenship. They also have a passion for independence. This beautiful child-born in squalor and poverty, uneducated in both grammar and manners-had given me a glimpse of the warm soul of India.

(b) It is said that vidya gives you viveka, vimarsarupini vidya gives you a sense of what is right and helps you to avoid what is wrong. You must try, therefore, to find out what is required of you in this generation.

10. PART – I
Translate the following into English : 10

असफलताओं से हमें कभी निराश नहीं होना चाहिए। सफलता और असफलता दो बहने हैं और असफलता हमारी आंखें खोलती हैं और हमारी कमजोरियों को हमें बताती है। उन्हें दूर कर हम भविष्य में सफल हो सकते हैं। बड़े-बड़े वैज्ञानिक अपने प्रयोग में असफल होते हैं। बड़े-बड़े योद्धा युद्ध के मैदान में पराजित होते हैं। महान नेता चुनाव में हार जाते हैं परंतु वे निरंतर प्रयास करते रहते हैं और एक दिन अवश्य सफल होते हैं। मार्ग की कठिनाइयां देखकर हमें कभी निराश नहीं होनी चाहिए। यदि हम दृण निश्चय कर लें, तो कुछ भी चीजें असंभव नहीं है।

12. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :

Good deed may be done by anyone in any walk of life, by the soldier in barracks or on the battlefield, by the woman in the home, the nurse in the hospital, the businessman in his office, the boy at school or the inventor in the workshop. The actual performance of a good deed adds to the happiness, both of the doer and of those for whom it is done. The memory of a good deed excites love and gratitude, renews man’s belief in his mind and inspires others to go and do likewise. It is an incentive to live purely, act uprightly and deal justly with their fellow men.

(a) Who should perform a good deed. 2

(b) What is the effect of the memory of a good thing? 2

(c) (i) Explain the underlined portion in the passage. 1
